I’m really excited to be a part of Elevated Learning Tutors! Although we are living through a difficult time, I’ve often embraced challenging educational situations and have gotten a lot of pleasure out of doing so. I got started teaching with the Peace Corps in Kenya and had a wonderful time teaching junior and senior high English to Kenyan students. Then, about twenty years later, I again went back into the Peace Corps and taught English in Bangladesh. I’ve also taught English and Social Studies in American high schools and at the community college level. I was lucky enough, too, to work as an instructional assistant for fifteen years in elementary special education. I get a real charge out of seeing students progress, follow their individual interests and develop the critical thinking skills that are so important in navigating what life has in store. I love to read contemporary fiction and particularly enjoy the fiction by Kent Haruf; Plainsong is one of my favorite books! Charlotte’s Web is another book that reaches me on a variety of different levels. In many ways, I think I’m happiest when I’m laughing with friends and family or running mountain trails. I’m also an avid cross-country skier!
